September Meeting - Part 2 - Cards for the Troops

Cards for the Troops

Cards collected at the meeting

Virginia Moore and Barbara Savage

The September 20th R.S.V.P. meeting was the "ingathering" for Cards for the Troops. Our members outdid themselves -- we collected six hundred ninety five (695) cards!! Thank you, thank you, all who contributed!

The first photo above is of the boxes and bags of cards that were turned in at the meeting. After the meeting, we second-guessed ourselves and decided that each card should have a small label on the back to reflect that it was sent by the R.S.V.P. group. So....

On Tuesday of this week, a couple of members met with Virginia Moore at her home to accomplish this. The second photo is of Virginia and Barbara Savage along with bags of cards that had the labels affixed.

Virginia and her sainted husband, Harold, boxed up the cards, 25 pounds of them, and mailed them on Wednesday to the O.R.C.A.S. stamping club in Oregon, where they will be sorted, boxed and sent out to U.S. troops in various parts of the world --along with hundreds and hundreds of other cards contributed by other stamping clubs. Virginia's contact at ORCAS told her that, to date, their club has mailed 72,000 cards to our troops!

Thanks to all who contributed funds for the cost of the postage to send our cards to Oregon. All funds remaining from your contributions will be used to offset next year's postage.

START NOW to collect and re-work cards for our club's 2009 contribution to Cards for the Troops. Select cards from swaps, cards you receive for birthdays, Christmas, etc. All-occasion cards are always in demand.

Again, thanks to everyone who contributed cards for this outreach project.
